One of the components required in industrial products, engineering processes and in the printed circuit board is the spacer. Nylon spacers play many important roles and come in all kinds of shapes and sizes to suit the various purposes that they are made to serve. Spacers are meant to prevent metal-to-metal contact and prevent damage to surfaces on account of their low-friction co-efficient, apart from acting as electrical insulators that do not rust, corrode or deteriorate even when exposed to delicate conditions and the vagaries of nature.

The various types of nylon spacers include the clamp-back spacers, wide base spacers, push in spacers, reverse-locking spacers, snap in standoffs, standard washer spacers and a series of circuit board spacers, each of them made in different forms and to various specifications, with strength and durability being the prime characteristics.

The nylon spacers used with all kinds of clamps or straps are the clamp-back spacers, which are designed to be mounted and suitable for different kinds of materials such as rigid steel, IMC or the EMT conduit. The popularity of this kind of spacers could be attributed to their having been made from PVC materials, which tend to last through all kinds of weather conditions.

There are special sets of nylon spacers that are meant to go with Printed Circuit Boards (PCB’s), as in the case of wide base spacers, featuring wide bases on both ends to provide additional support to heavily loaded PCB’s. The advantage with wide base spacers is that they eliminate the need for all kinds of nuts and screws. Nylon spacers meant for PCB’s also include push in spacers as well as reverse-locking spacers. The push-in spacers feature the tension wing, meant for the purpose of additional support and offering a secure fit without much ado. The reverse-locking spacers, on the other hand, are made specifically to handle heavily loaded PCB’s, which are to be inserted from beneath the chassis upwards. These nylon spacers also eliminate the need for additional fasteners for mounting on account of their specially designed single-piece form.

Apart from these widely sued nylon spacers, there are other kinds such as the Metric Washer spacers, which are extensively used for insulation purposes and for a wide range of mechanical applications. Apart from reducing vibration, they are also known for their strength and their tendency to resist corrosion. With various lengths and being made in standard thread sizes, nylon spacers play an integral role in the manufacture and storage of mechanical and electric equipment.
